Schnuck breaks hammer record to open HPU women’s track’s outdoor slate

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior thrower Jamie Schnuck continues to save her best for last in an HPU uniform, as the Wisconsin native broke her own record in the hammer throw Friday to lead the High Point University women’s track & field team at the Wake Forest Open.

Schnuck posed a mark of 52.47m (172-1), upending her previous record of 51.21m by a significant margin. When comparing to final 2015 outdoor marks, Schnuck’s 52.47m throw would’ve ranked in the top-75 in the East Region, which certainly is a sign of things to come for the talented thrower.

In addition to Schnuck, sophomore Makenzi Holmes-DiGiovine also competed in the hammer and placed 23rd with a mark of 42.22m (138-6). Holmes-DiGiovine also competed in the shot put and placed 33rd with a mark of 11.54 (37-10.5). Her marquee event, the discus throw, takes place on Saturday in Winston-Salem.

On the jumps circuit, junior heptathlete Erika Bridges placed 11th in the high jump with a mark of 1.53m (5-0.25). Senior Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick was eighth in the B-Section of the event (1.48m, 4-10.25) while freshman Charlotte Morrow placed 13th (1.43m, 4-8.25).

In the 100m hurdles preliminaries, sophomore Ashlynn Schiro placed 24th with a time of 15.10 seconds while fellow sophomore Mikaela Campbell set a new collegiate best with a time of 15.60 seconds. Bridges (PR of 15.89 seconds) and sophomore Haley Cianfarini (16.00) placed 40th and 44th, respectively, while sophomore CeAnna Soper was 45th (16.07).

Freshman Arianna Coleman placed 38th in the 100m dash prelims (12.64) and Campbell was 43rd (12.72). Juniors Amanda Gregory (12.86) and Alyn Carr (12.89) placed 54th and 55th, respectively.

Senior Lilla Lorand finished 33rd out of 84 participants in the 400m dash with a time of 59.65 seconds.

In distance action, freshman Keaton Case finished 27th in the 1500m run (4:58.23) and fellow freshman Janelle Rothacker placed 39th in 5:05.63.
