Women’s Soccer Blanks Ferrum In USA South Tournament Opener

FERRUM, Va. -The Greensboro College women’s soccer team upset the third seeded Panthers of Ferrum College in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday, 3-0.

Anna Rae Porcelli gave the Pride its first goal of the game in the 12th minute after collecting a loose ball in front of the Panthers keeper.

Later in the half, Samara Alba tallied her fifth goal of the season off a Porcelli assist to give Greensboro a two-goal halftime lead.

“We came out strong in the first half,” Head Coach Gus Mota said. “Anna Rae’s goal gave us a big confidence boost early.”

Neither team was able to get a look on goal in the second half until Briana Huber struck for the game’s final goal in the 83rd minute.

Greensboro tallied 10 shots in the contest with five being on goal. Porcelli and Alba each had two shots on goal, while Huber added one shot on goal. Brittany Morrison picked up the win in goal for Greensboro after recording seven saves, while Taylor Dodson took the loss for Ferrum.

“This was a total team win,” Mota added. “To come out and play strong on the road for a full 90 minutes is tough. I am just really happy for my team, especially the seniors, as we get to move on to the next round of the tournament.

The Pride women will hit the road again Saturday when they travel to No. 2 East seeded Methodist University for a quarterfinal round contest. The game is set to get underway at 3 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College women’s soccer, continue to follow

Men’s Soccer To Host Covenant In USA South Quarter Final Round

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team earned the third seed in the upcoming USA South Athletic Conference men’s soccer tournament, the conference announced Wednesday.

By virtue of their third seed, the Pride men will host the Scots of Covenant College in a quarter final matchup at 3 p.m. Saturday, on Pride field.

In accordance with the USA South Tournament regulations, fans will be charged admission into the contest. Adult tickets are $6.00, while faculty, staff, student, child, and senior prices are $3.00.

Volleyball Falls At Averett

DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College volleyball team fell in its final USA South Athletic Conference regular season road contest to Averett University Wednesday, 3-0.

The Cougars raced out to a 5-2 lead in Set 1 before Greensboro ran off five straight points to take a 7-5 lead. Meredith Summers fueled the run with two service aces, while Samantha Kirschner added one kill.

Greensboro then held its margin until Averett retook the lead at 12-11 before going on to win the set 25-19, taking a 1-0 lead.

Following the first set, the Pride struggled to get the offense going as they dropped the final two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-15.

“Our defense did great holding us in the game tonight,” Assistant Coach Catherine Head said. “We look forward to using that as a building block heading into senior day Saturday.”

Emily Horn, Evan Sherer, and Summers combined for 12 kills, while Tori Blecher recorded 12 digs. Katie Clark had a team-high eight assists.

The Pride volleyball team will return to action at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan for senior day. Greensboro will honor seniors Brandy Johnson, Haley Borher, Holley Anders, Rachel Suttee, Lauren Bennett, and Samantha Kirschner prior to the match.
