Records Set for Elon Track and Field at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by new school records in the distance medley relay, the Elon University women’s track and field team had a strong outing at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21, inside the JDL Fast Track Complex.

Racing in its first DMR as a team in nearly three years, the Phoenix saw a pair of groups set new school records in the event. The Elon “B” team of Brigid Brennan, Lydia Laws, Chelsea Smith and Shelby Cuddeback clocked a 12:07.82 in the 4,000-meter DMR, breaking the previous school-record by nearly 15 seconds and also qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships. The maroon and gold “A” DMR team of Melissa Anastasakis, Katie Arbogast, Molly Offstein and Coralea Geraniotis ran the second-fastest time in program history with its 12:09.84 and was the runner-up overall.

Elon also won the 4×400-meter relay by edging Georgia Southern. The Phoenix quartet of Desiree Ross, Arbogast, Laws and Lauren Brzozowski clocked a time of 3:56.49.

In the shot put, Bre’anna Warren was the runner-up in the event after setting a new personal-record with a toss of 45’ 11.25” (14.00m) and becomes only the second athlete in school history to reach the 14-meter mark in the indoor shot put (Charlise Morgan – school-record 14.78m in 2014). Bryanna Hames also finished in the top-five in fourth with her new personal-best heave of 45’ 4.25” (13.82m) while freshman Skylar Barthelmes had a new collegiate-best throw of 40’ 4.25” (12.30m).
