Game Report on Southwest Guilford-High Point Central Boys Basketball:Seniors Kam Langley, Lamberth, and Bullock help Cowboys lock down Senior Night win/victory

Southwest Guilford 91, High Point Central 61

The Cowboys hosted the Bison on Senior Night here at the Ranch. A win tonight would clinch the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Championship for the Cowboys in their last season in it. In the earlier match-up at High Point Central, the Cowboys dominated from start to finish in a resounding 79-33 victory. Will the Cowboys be able to keep the emotions of tonight at bay and stay focused on the task at hand?

The Bison are having their best season in the Conference since their only other winning season in the Piedmont Triad Conference in the 2011-2012 season, and want to match that win total of 7 in the conference in 2 less games.

The Cowboys opened up the game getting up 3-0 after a couple of possessions. The Bison got on the board with a made free-throw at 3-1 at the 5:59 mark. Southwest then went on a quick 8-0 run making it 11-1 right at midway through the frame. The Bison finally tallied a made field goal making it 11-3 at the 3:45 mark. From there however, the Bison showed some fight as it was fairly even for the remainder of the frame as it closed out with the Cowboys only up 19-13.

After the teams traded baskets to open up the second quarter, the Cowboys used a 9-0 run to pull it out to 29-15 at the 5:20 mark. The teams then continued to trade baskets for several trips. The Cowboy’s lead peaked at 40-21 at the 2:20 mark. From there the Bison continued to fight hard and used a 9-2 overall run, including a 7-0 run that closed the half at 42-30 in favor of the Cowboys.

The second half was similar to the other frames as the Cowboys would use quick spurts to increase the margin, but the Bison would put some baskets together in response. The Cowboys margin hit 62-42 at the 2:05 mark in the third frame. Southwest then got the lead up to 67-44, but for the third straight quarter in a row, the Bison managed to score the last points of the frame taking us to 67-46.

The final quarter had the Cowboys start clicking more on the offensive side of the ball and seemed to find a better flow as the lead began to extend a little further as the bench came in an contributed well. In the end it was just too much Southwest as they cruised to the convincing 91-61 victory.

The Bison were led by Zab McPhail with 17 points. The Cowboys were led by; Brandon Lamberth with (16, 7 Rebs, Ast), Keshaun Langley with (16, 5 Asts, 4 Rebs, 2 Stls), Kobe Langley with (14, 2 Rebs, Stl, Ast) and of course Kameron Langley with (12, 9 Rebs, 4 Asts, 4 Stls).

The Southwest Trio of Seniors, Paul Bullock, Kameron Langley, and Brandon Lamberth led an excellent senior night display for the Cowboys. With the win the Cowboys win the Conference Title. This is the 5th year in a row that Southwest has either won the conference outright or at least a share of the regular season title as well of 6 of 7. The lone year they did not win the regular season title in the last 7 years, the Cowboys won the conference tournament that season.

The Cowboys finish regular season conference play in the Piedmont Triad 4A with a total record of 66-10 in the last 7 years of regular season play. The next closest to that mark is NW with a mark of 53-22.
