FOREST, Va. – Guilford College senior Eric Yost collected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award Monday. He is the first Quaker award winner this year and earned the honor for the first time in his career.
Yost, a 6-1, 200-pound left-hander, tossed seven and two-thirds strong innings against non-conference opponent Averett University February 19, which helped the Quakers to their fourth straight win. He scattered six hits, walked just one, and fanned a career-high nine batters in Guilford’s 4-0 shutout. Yost had a strikeout in seven of the eight frames he threw, and retired 12 straight between the fourth and seventh innings.
Saturday’s victory evened Yost’s record at 1-1 and brought his earned run average to 5.93 in three appearances, all starts. He ranks fourth in the ODAC with 13.2 innings pitched this season, and fourth in the ODAC with 12 strikeouts. Yost has walked just six batters this season.
