Joe Sirera and Spencer Turkin out with the News and Record’s HSXtra All-Area Football Team today, and you can access the kids on the 2018 N&R All-Area team, when you CLICK HERE

Lots of kids we all have covered all season long on the All-Area squad, and I have to say I am proud of those young men and we congratulate them on their hard work and guess what, it has paid off for you…..

Our Player of the Year for Guilford County is Ryan Douglas, from Southeast Guilford High School….I have talked to our staff, and they were all in agreement that Douglas is “The Man”, and the top player in Guilford County this past season….

QB Ryan Douglas led his team to the NCHSAA 3-AA State Championship Game….On the season, Douglas was 159-297 passing for 2,305 yards….Douglas completed 52.6% of his passes and he threw for 144.1 yards per game, with 15 TD’s and 11 INT’s….Ryan ran the ball 186 times for 946 yards and he scored 19 TD’s on the ground….Douglas total yards showed him 3,251 yards and he was responsible for 34 TD’s…

Excellent season for Ryan Douglas….And our Guilford County Player of the Year for 2018….

For our Coach of the Year, we go with Kennedy Tinsley, from Southeast Guilford High School…Coach Tinsley led his team to the State Championship Game and the SEG Falcons finished the 2018 season, at (14-2)….In 2017, SEG went (9-3) and lost in Round One of the playoffs….SEG had a three-week run in this year’s playoffs where they defeated Eastern Guilford 9-3 in Overtime, then topped the Dudley Panthers 21-18, before dismantling the Cleveland Rams, 37-33 and in all of those games, SEG mounted second half comebacks to win those thrillers, at Bill Slayton Stadium….

Coach Tinsley, our 2018 Guilford County High School football Coach of the Year….In just his second season as a head football coach, and his second year at Southeast Guilford High School, he led his team to the NCHSAA 3-AA East Regional Championship and took his Falcons, to the State Championship Game…

If we had a second place spot for Coach of the Year, it would go to Daryl Brown, the head football coach at Grimsley High School…Coach Brown’s Whirlies completed the 2018 season at (7-6) and he got him team to the Third Round of the NCHSAA 4-A Playoffs….Nice job by Coach Brown at Grimsley High School and his Whirlies are really starting to come around, and with a junior quarterback and a top running junior RB, Grimsley should be right there in 2019…..

That is our post on the 2018 high school football season and we, like all of you, are already looking forward to the 2019 season….

  1. Congrats to Ryan and Coach Tinsley. I have been saying it for three years and no one believed me………

  2. Team is a joke. You have kids that didn’t make all conference team on here and Eastern Guilford didn’t get but 2 spots and no skilled players. Who vote for this team? Once again complete joke.

  3. Brett Shreve of Southeast honorable mention all area? Give me a break. He had more high impact plays for best defense in the county than anybody. At worst second team; should be first team.

  4. We are very grateful for EVERY COACH that Ryan has had in football. ALL of you have influenced him and taught him valuable lessons to take with him in life.

  5. Glad to see all the whiny little bitches out in force as usual complaining because their kid or their team’s kid didn’t make some all-star team. Trophies and orange slices for everyone!

  6. Congrats to the young men selected. I did not have the pleasure seeing all of them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If a son did not make it. Not that big of a deal just keep working hard. Grand scheme of things i doubt nick saban is making his offers based on this

  7. Congrats to All The Kids who made the All Conference All Area…. Chris Thacker gets Honorable Mentions All Area after starting the year strong but missing Key Games mid Season..jury still out on All conferences..Was a force to be reckoned wit as a RB AND CB?…Coaches like who they like I guess!..Best of Luck to All Seniors..its Time to Level Up

  8. Someone is still up-set because he runs behind his best friend just to be his terrible DC.. stop it lil DH why are y’all still mad S.E. lost shouldn’t you be happy ohhhh wait they still did more in one season then you an you butt buddy did in 14 lol I get it now.. I would tell you it’s gonna be ok but if your counting on lil JR to get you there SA in trouble

  9. JD…

Do you find it amazing what a group of coaches who know what they are doing can do when they believe in the kids? They brought a team of kids to the state championship who you are quoted as saying would never win…

  10. Interesting comments. I was not a fan of the previous coaching staffs gameplan, but I will say this, I saw Southern Alamance play last year and Fritz got them right this year. They were fit and they executed well. They even threw the ball more than he allowed at Southeast. That being said I think the change in direction at Southeast was the right move and it seems to have actually worked out well for everyone.
