Lots of kids we all have covered all season long on the All-Area squad, and I have to say I am proud of those young men and we congratulate them on their hard work and guess what, it has paid off for you…..
Our GSOSports.com/GreensboroSports.com Player of the Year for Guilford County is Ryan Douglas, from Southeast Guilford High School….I have talked to our staff, and they were all in agreement that Douglas is “The Man”, and the top player in Guilford County this past season….
QB Ryan Douglas led his team to the NCHSAA 3-AA State Championship Game….On the season, Douglas was 159-297 passing for 2,305 yards….Douglas completed 52.6% of his passes and he threw for 144.1 yards per game, with 15 TD’s and 11 INT’s….Ryan ran the ball 186 times for 946 yards and he scored 19 TD’s on the ground….Douglas total yards showed him 3,251 yards and he was responsible for 34 TD’s…
Excellent season for Ryan Douglas….And our GreensboroSports.com Guilford County Player of the Year for 2018….
For our Coach of the Year, we go with Kennedy Tinsley, from Southeast Guilford High School…Coach Tinsley led his team to the State Championship Game and the SEG Falcons finished the 2018 season, at (14-2)….In 2017, SEG went (9-3) and lost in Round One of the playoffs….SEG had a three-week run in this year’s playoffs where they defeated Eastern Guilford 9-3 in Overtime, then topped the Dudley Panthers 21-18, before dismantling the Cleveland Rams, 37-33 and in all of those games, SEG mounted second half comebacks to win those thrillers, at Bill Slayton Stadium….
Coach Tinsley, our 2018 GreensboroSports.com Guilford County High School football Coach of the Year….In just his second season as a head football coach, and his second year at Southeast Guilford High School, he led his team to the NCHSAA 3-AA East Regional Championship and took his Falcons, to the State Championship Game…
If we had a second place spot for Coach of the Year, it would go to Daryl Brown, the head football coach at Grimsley High School…Coach Brown’s Whirlies completed the 2018 season at (7-6) and he got him team to the Third Round of the NCHSAA 4-A Playoffs….Nice job by Coach Brown at Grimsley High School and his Whirlies are really starting to come around, and with a junior quarterback and a top running junior RB, Grimsley should be right there in 2019…..
That is our post on the 2018 high school football season and we, like all of you, are already looking forward to the 2019 season….
