The Ghost of Millwee past comes back to town to Haunt/Hurt Hoppers on Wednesday at First National Bank Field

There was a time, when the top Millwee in this area/part of the country, and in this part of the county was, Joe Millwee….Joe Millwee played high school baseball for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, and Joe was part of the Nighthawk team that won the NCHSAA 3-A State Baseball Title back in 2017, when Northern knocked off the Crest Chargers, from Boiling Springs, N.C., in the best Two-out-Three Game Series, played at Five County Stadium, in Zebulon, N.C.
(Championship Saturday for Northern Guilford, was June 3, 2017.)

Northern Guilford won the state baseball title that year/season and the NG Nighthawks were led by Joe Millwee, Cameron Cotter, Josh Pike, JT Jarrett, Logan King, Troy Minor, JC Ouzts and others…Head coach was Landon Kimrey…..I was there when they won the first game on Friday, then lost the second game on Saturday, but bounced back to take the third game on Saturday, to claim the title….

Now how does that state baseball title, that the local Northern Guilford Nighthawks won back over four years ago, how does that time and season, have anything to do with the outcome of today’s Greensboro Grasshoppers-Winston-Salem Dash game???

Well here you go…..

It is all about the Ghost of Millwees past…..You had Joe Millwee with the Northern Guilford Nighthawks back in his high school days, and then today, we saw his older brother, Daniel Millwee, stroll into the First National Bank Field, as the catcher for the WS Dash…

Daniel Millwee also played for the High Point University Purple Panthers, but he did not play high school baseball here, but like we said earlier, his younger brother, Joe Millwee did…

Coming into Wednesday’s day game for the WS Dash, Daniel Millwee only had one previous game’s experience with Winston-Salem…He had spent the earlier part of this 2021 season, with the Class A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers…

As Daniel Millwee came to the park for the Wednesday day game he was not looked upon as being a major threat to the Hoppers’ chances of the winning the game, but Daniel Millwee proved everybody wrong…He had been selected prior to game to be the Biscuitville Strikeout Victim…He was considered the WS Dash player most likely to strike out in this game, and when he did, all of the fans in attendance for today’s game would get a FREE biscuit, from Biscuitville…

But Daniel Millwee turned the tables on the biscuit makers, and the strikeout odds makers, he never came close to striking out during his five plate appearances on Wednesday afternoon….Millwee hit home run his first at bat, his first of the season, and then he proceeded to collect two singles and he also drew a walk…He came to the plate five times on Wednesday, and he goes 3-4 with a walk and the only time he didn’t reach base, he grounded out to the Hoppers’ shortstop, Francisco Acuna…Millwee goes 3-4, with three runs scored and he had one RBI….Not bad for a guy picked to be the Biscuitville Strikeout Victim, prior to the baseball game…

And so it goes for the Ghost of Millwee Past…He came back to town to haunt and hurt the Grasshoppers today/Wednesday afternoon….Millwee gave the WS Dash the early 1-0 lead, with his solo home run to the grassy hill in left field in the third inning, and he later scored again in the fifth and eighth innings…Daniel Millwee was getting it done on Wednesday afternoon at First National Bank Field, and the Winston-Salem Dash were getting it done to the tune of 13-7 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers….

With the win/victory, the Dash now lead the Best-of-Six Series, Two-games-to-None(2-0)…..

Game particulars from the Wednesday Dash victory…..
