Friday Night Finish:The Page Pirates are for Real and the Metro 4-A Race just got a bit Thicker/Tighter

On the Friday Night Finish, it is already Saturday morning, but we still need to look back at how things turned out on this Friday Night, October 1…The one that really got my attention and got me to thinking was the result that we saw for the Page Pirates, as they closed out the Northwest Guilford Vikings, 34-13…

The Metro 4-A Conference race now shows us Grimsley at (3-0), Northern Guilford is (3-0), and here come the Page Pirates at (3-0)…Both Grimsley and Northern Guilford are at (6-0) overall, and Page has won three straight games, to improve to (3-3) overall, but Page is right there with Grimsley and Northern Guilford, at the top of the Metro 4-A Conference standings…

Page is standing on some pretty solid ground right now….

Otherwise Metro, Northwest Guilford is now at (1-2) with the Vikings on the road to Northern Guilford next Friday night…NWG is (3-3) overall and the Vikes will need to defeat Northern if NWG wants to remain the 4-A playoff hunt…Southwest Guilford sits at (1-2) Metro and just like NWG, the SWG Cowboys are at (3-3) overall…Southeast Guilford Falcons improved to (1-2) Metro and to (3-3) overall after they took down Ragsdale, 50-0, on Friday night…Ragsdale and Western Guilford are both at (0-3) Metro, while the Tigers are (1-5) and the Hornets are (1-4) overall…

Metro lineup as of Friday night October 1….
Grimsley(3-0/6-0)
Northern Guilford(3-0/6-0)
Page(3-3/3-0)
Northwest Guilford(1-2/3-3)
Southeast Guilford(1-2/3-3)
Southwest Guilford(1-2/3-3)
Ragsdale(1-5/0-3)
Western Guilford(1-4/0-3)

Next Friday night we have:
Ragsdale at Grimsley
Northwest Guilford at Northern Guilford
Page at Western Guilford
Southeast Guilford at Southwest Guilford

From the Page-Northwest Guilford game at Marion Kirby Stadium on Friday night…Northwest Guilford scores first in this Page Homecoming contest, as the Vikings’ QB Tanner Ballou hits his WR Trent Cloud on a 10-yard TD toss…The Cameron Tippett PAT kick was good, and Northwest led Page, 7-0, with 9:32 to go in the First Quarter…

Page tied the game right up, when Trevon Hester raced into the end zone on a 22-yard Page Pirate run for a touchdown…The Tylar Elliot kick was good, and we are all tied up at 7-7, with 5:41 left to play in the First Quarter…

Northwest regained the lead when Tanner Ballou connected with Bristol Carter on a 37-yard TD pass, and the PAT kick was no good, and with 5:48 remaining in the Second Quarter, our scores says, NWG 13, Page 7…

Page gets it rolling again, when the Pirates’ freshman quarterback Jerron Blackwell finds his receiver Grady Sherrill wide open in the left corner of the end zone, and this results in a 11-yard TD pass…The Tylar Elliot PAT kick is successful, and Page takes their first, but not their last lead in this game, with the Pirates up by one point, at 14-13….This most recent score came with 2:52 to go in the Second Quarter…

Page takes a 20-13 lead over NWG, when Trevon Hester scores his second TD of the game, and it comes on a 24-yard run, with 1:57 to play in the First Half…The two-point conversion pass play was no good, and it’s Page 20, Northwest Guilford 13, at Halftime….

It was paydirt again for the Page Pirates with 9:31 left to play in the Third Quarter, as Jaleel Strader took off on a 53-yard touchdown run, and the PAT kick was blocked, and Page is no in charge of the ballgame, leading NWG, 26-13……

With 45.4 seconds remaining in the Third Quarter, Trevon Hester scores his third touchdown of the night for the Page Pirates, and it comes on a nine-yard run, and Hester adds the two-point conversion run, and Page is now on top, 34-13…….
And that is how our game will end tonight, Page 34, Northwest Guilford 13

  1. Watching Grimsley play last couple of games just to see what the hype is all about. Pretty good team but will not get pass second round of playoffs. Page will be a lot harder than people think. Offense of Grimsley not as powerful as I thought good Qb but relying on running too much miss big time targets wide open all night against a team not as strong as Page or Northern. Running game wasn’t a factor against Western SMH. Charlotte teams would have a field day against the Whirlies. Need to improve on Secondary and play calling. The ship is rising.

  2. Yes, now got Grimsley home next week…Didn’t think they would be home back-to-back games at this late stage of the season, but there you go, with Ragsdale at Grimsley next Friday night…
I saw a team photo of Ragsdale on Twitter last night, and the Ragsdale Tigers only had 23 players on their varsity football team…I counted the players three times and that is the number I came up with…Numbers waaay down at Ragsdale right now…Don’t know the reason, but I know they have a very capable coach in Johnny Boykin…Any kid would want to play for him…..A good leader and great with the kids from all that I have seen over the years….Don’t know why the numbers are down, but they are…..

  3. Coach Boykin is a great coach i think the best around these parts to be honest. He does it the right way wish him and his team the best along the way
