CLICK HERE to read more, as Matt Harder is stepping away as the Athletic Director at Page High School…
(Report coming in from Joe Sirera, at the News and Record)
**********I initially called Matt Harder, Matt Hardy, in the headline…I think I must have wrestling on the brain too, right beside my basketball goal.)**********
Tough job, and Matt Harder has done a super job of running and steering ‘The Pirate Ship” over the past 3 1/2 years…
He was the boys basketball coach for the Page Pirates, before stepping up and becoming the AD, and he was also an assistant boys basketball coach, at Ben L. Smith High School, where he helped lead a Metro 4-A Conference Championship basketball team…
Matt Harder played basketball for his dad John Harder, at Morehead High School, up in Eden, back in his high school playing days, and the Harders have a very solid basketball pedigree/background…John Harder was one of the top high school basketball coaches to come through Guilford County, back when he was coaching the Ragsdale Tigers, and he mentored Matt Harder, to be just as strong in the coaching department, as his dad was…Very fundamentally sound in their basketball virtues, the Harder Family…
Matt Harder, one of the good people involved in high school sports in Guilford County, and although he is leaving ‘The Ship” for now, we hope to see him sailing again soon, at some sports outpost in Guilford County, or in the surrounding area…Tough to lose the good ones, but this is not a total loss, because John and Matt Harder have always been Winners, and they shared that same knowledge and enthusiasm for basketball, with everyone they came in contact with…
Can still see Matt Harder taking some long one-handed impossible basketball shots(and they were going in), after a Page basketball game, as things were winding down, and asking me if I could do the same…Not right now(I said), but if you give me a little while to hit the outdoor court at Forest Valley, I will get Evan Fancourt to heave me a LONG pass, and I will stick it from 35 feet….
Probably tired of losing to the Whirlies.
Way to keep it classy Gfan.
