Friday Football Finish:Looking at how our Local Teams did Tonight, and now who they will be facing Next Friday Night(Who will have the toughest game next week?)

As far as the NCHSAA Football Playoffs go, we started the night with 8 teams left/remaining in the mix, and after Round One of the football playoff action, we have four teams/schools that are still in the hunt…

Moving on to Round Two we have:
Grimsley(11-0)
Northwest Guilford(9-2)
Dudley(9-2)
Eastern Guilford(7-4)

Teams that are done for the year:
Southeast Guilford(7-4)
Page(5-6)
Southwest Guilford(5-6)
Southern Guilford(6-5)

High Point Christian Academy has moved on to the Second Round of the NCISAA Football Playoffs, and the HPCA Cougars are now (5-6) on the season…

Grimsley put up 69 points in Round One…Northwest Guilford scored 45 points…Dudley tallied 43 points, and Eastern Guilford posted 56 points…

Round Two of the NCHSAA Playoffs could get real interesting for our local teams…You have Charlotte Catholic(9-2) at Grimsley(11-0), there’s South Point(10-1) at Dudley(9-2), Northwest Guilford(9-2) at Watauga(10-1), and then there’s Eastern Guilford(7-4) at Erwin(6-5)…

Grimsley a #1 seed vs. #17 seed Charlotte Catholic…Northwest Guilford a #14 seed, at #3 Watauga…#6 Dudley vs. #11 seed South Point…#23 seed Eastern Guilford vs. #7 Erwin…

Northwest Guilford going to Boone to face the Pioneers from Watauga…Eastern Guilford on the road, going way up to Asheville, to meet the Erwin Warriors…Dudley hosting South Point(Red Raiders), from Belmont, N.C. Greensboro Grimsley going head-to-head with Catholic(Cougars), from Charlotte…

If Grimsley tops Charlotte Catholic, then the Whirlies would be meeting the winner of the Charlotte Independence vs. Charlotte Olympic game, in Round Three of the Playoffs…Plenty of Charlotte teams waiting on the Whirlies…Saying if Dudley gets on by South Point, then the Panthers would meet the #3 Oak Grove vs. #14 Crest next, and it looks like Crest(8-3) has a very good chance to beat Oak Grove…The Oak Grove Grizzlies just got past West Mecklenburg, 17-12 in Round One…Oak Grove will not find Crest to be an easy out…Crest won their first round game over Statesville, 33-7…Dudley won in Round Four up at Statesville last season…Mallard Creek(8-3) at Hough(9-2) in a 4-A rematch next Friday night…Mallard Mavericks over the Hough Huskies, the first time they met this season, 13-9…The Northwest Guilford Vikings are in the same bracket with Weddington(10-1), and Cox Mill(9-2).

Best chance to win next Friday would be #1 Dudley, #2 Grimsley, #3 Northwest Guilford, and #4 Eastern Guilford…Northwest will have to find a way to win without one of their top receivers/defensive backs/punters/Kickoff Return men, in Bristol Carter…Carter will have to miss the NWG Vikings game at Watauga, due to him being called for taunting, after he scored a touchdown for NWG on a 96-yard Kickoff Return…Bristol Carter was ejected from the NWG-Southeast Guilford game, and now he will forced to sit out Round Two of the playoffs…Big loss for the NWG Vikings, because Carter did some many things for Northwest and he did them all well…He was so explosive as a return man, and he could take off and leave you, after he made a catch as an NWG wide receiver…Again, a big loss with Carter set to be missing from the NWG lineup next Friday night…He did not play again vs. Southeast Guilford after his ejection, and now NWG can make an appeal to the NCHSAA to try and get Carter back, but the NCHSAA would have to change his ejection to a disqualification, in order for Bristol Carter to be able to play next Friday night, at Watauga(Boone)…..

Southeast Guilford fell pretty hard at Northwest on Friday night, but in hindsight, at the End of the First Quarter, the score was just, 2-0 Northwest over Southeast…NWG went up 10-0 early in the Second Quarter, and then SEG’s Khaleb Mosley cut the lead to 10-7 when he grabbed a batted Tanner Ballou pass out of the air, and took the ball back 60 yards for a SEG TD/touchdown…TD takeback by Mosley and the PAT from Aidan Bonde, the SEG Falcons’ kicker…10-7 NWG, and then the Vikings got that 96-yard Kickoff Return from the Vikings’ Bristol Carter and with the Nate Wallace PAT kick, NWG goes up 17-7…Like we said, that score got close when SEG made it NWG 10, SEG 7 and then it almost got close again, when it was 17-7 with NWG over SEG…Cam Williams reeled off a Long Run for Southeast Guilford, and when Williams stopped running, the football was at the NWG 2-yard line…First-and-goal SEG, at the NWG two-yard line, as the First Half clock was running out…SEG, with the TD and PAT would have made the score 17-14 NWG going into the halftime break, but SEG could not get a touchdown, they had to rush to get off a Field Goal attempt from their super-accurate kicker Aidan Bonde, and Bonde’s kick went sailing sideways toward the Goal Post, and ended missing the mark, going wide left…That left the score at NWG 17, SEG 7 at the half, and with SEG coming away with NO points right as the first half ended, that was a key turning point in the football game…

More on this game and others on the way…
Southern Guilford made it close up at Hibriten, near Lenoir, with the Storm falling by just five points, 32-37….. Southwest Guilford posted 26 points at Mooresville, and the Page Pirates found the going very rough down at Charlotte Independence…Pirates put 13 points on the scoreboard, but they gave up 41…..

  1. @KT I’m assuming your team was on the losing end or done for the year..Helmets to the left, shoulder pads to the right!

  2. Same lack of discipline that lead to the Panthers losing last week. Learn it now and you will not have to learn it later when the stakes may be higher.

Parents quit making excuses for you kids who cannot follow the rules.

  3. Bristol Carter(NWG) has been reinstated[Ejection lowered to Disqualification and he will now play at Watauga next Friday night]…..
