GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team begins a five-game road trip, starting with a three-game series against Southern Conference (SoCon) foes the Furman Paladins.

The Spartans enter the contest 23-13 overall with a 3-0 Southern Conference record. Furman is currently 12-22 overall and 4-2 in the SoCon.

LAST TIME OUT

· The Spartans fell in a tough ACC battle to in-state rival North Carolina, 8-7 in 13 innings.

· According to the record book, this game is tied for the longest game in UNCG history, with the other 13-inning game being played on March 27, 1990 falling to Charlotte, 1-0.

· Delaney Cumbie had the Spartans’ first hit of the game, a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

· Samantha Lagrama added to the Spartan home run total with her fourth blast of the season and 29th of her career. Lagrama tied the game at seven with a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh.

QUICK SPARTAN HITS
Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .364 batting average.
Brooklynn Maxwell is second with a .330 batting average and leading the team with 10 doubles.
Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 27 RBI and nine home runs.
Chartrand leads UNCG with 60 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 66.1 innings thus far.
Rhyann Jones is 7-1 in the circle.
Nationally, the Spartans are: second in walks (158), fifth in double plays per game (0.53), 18th in home runs per game (1.25), 50th in scoring (5.44) and slugging percentage (0.471), 60th in on base percentage (0.378), 62nd in doubles (46), 67th in win-loss percentage (0.639), and 73rd in shutouts (6).
UNCG is leading the conference in 11 categories including: double plays per game, doubles, doubles per game, earned run average, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, and walks.
Among the nation, Brown is 48th in home runs (9), 81st in home runs per game (0.25).
Delaney Cumbie is sixth nationally in walks per game (0.89), while Samantha Lagrama joins her in the top 25 and is 22nd in in walks per game (0.77).
Cumbie is also 63rd in on-base percentage (0.496) and runs per game (0.92).
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week twice so far this season, while Spell has been voted SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice, and Jones earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week once.

SCOUTING FURMAN
The Paladins are 12-22 overall and 4-2 in the SoCon.
Furman was voted to finish fourth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
Ashlee Lykins was selected to the All-SoCon Preseason first team, while Caitlin Goldwait, Riley Ludlam, and Sierra Tufts were voted to the second team.
The Paladins most recently fell 4-1 to No. 4 Clemson.
Furman swept Western Carolina and went 1-2 against ETSU.
Ludlam leads the team with a .427 batting average and a team-best 31 RBI.
She is leading the conference in toughest to strikeout (28.7) which is 19th in the nation and runs batted in per game (1.03) which is 36th in the nation.
Kiley Perry and Lykins are second and third on the team with a .339 and .317 batting average, respectively.
Tufts has tossed 93.1 innings and has a 3.53 ERA, striking out a team-best 59 batters.

HISTORY VS. FURMAN

UNCG leads the series 47-42.

The Spartans last defeated the Paladins on May 12, 9-0, in five innings during the SoCon Tournament.

UNCG also went 2-1 during regular season play against Furman.
