UNCG Baseball Falls to No. 1 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team dropped its first game of a seven-game road trip to No. 1 Wake Forest on Tuesday evening at David F. Cough Ballpark.

Kennedy Jones hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth, and again in the top of the seventh bringing Mason Mozeley in for a two-run homer to end the game with a final score of 14-4 in seven innings.

This was the second game of his career with multiple home runs in a game. He hit two homers in a 10-2 victory over Wofford in the 2022 SoCon Tournament on May 29.

How It Happened

GC Jarman was the first base runner and hit for the Spartans in the top of the first. Wake Forest came out hitting two home runs in the bottom of the first from Lucas Costello and Nick Kurtz, making its advantage, 2-0.

Zack Budzik scored from third base after Mitchell Smith hit a single to right field to cut the deficit to one run, 2-1, in the top of the second inning.

Kurtz hit his second home run of the night in the bottom of the third, bringing home teammate Costello. Brock Wilken also homered extending Wake Forest’s lead to four, 5-1.

The Demon Deacons’ offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth scoring nine runs off nine hits, to extend their advantage to 13 runs, 14-1.

The Spartans were able to hold the Demon Deacons scoreless between the fifth and sixth innings.

On Deck

UNCG continues its road trip heading to Ohio State for a three-game series, slated to start on Friday, May 12th at 6 p.m. They continue the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
