Nice mid-May afternoon at First National Bank Field, for a Mother’s Day Matinee, and the Jersey Shore BlueClaws made a mess of the Greensboro Grasshoppers May-Day plans, when the ‘Claws got themselves a firm grip on lead, and the BlueClaws only let the Hoppers get a sniff of success, and flirtation with a Mother’s Finest finish, happened in the fourth inning, when Tres Gonzalez scored to cut the ‘Claw lead to 4-1, but at that point, after the celebratory smoked cleared, the good stuff for May 14 was in the Grasshoppers rearview mirror…Good game/good day Gonzalez, as he goes 2-4/Double/Run/RBI/SB…Greensboro only came up with four hits on the day, and Gonzalez got half of those…

The Hoppers pitching staff struck out five ‘Claw batters, but they also walked seven ‘Claws…Most days, five K’s vs. 7 BB’s is not going to cut it, and today was one of those days…Jersey Shore’s pitching staff only walked two Hopper hitters, and BlueClaw pitchers struck out 13 Hoppers…Jersey Shore with the edge all the way around the bases, with Hao Yu Lee going 3-3/BB/Run, Nick Ward was 2-4/BB/2 Runs/HR/3 RBI, Kendall Simmons 2-4/BB/RBI, Jared Carr cranking out a Double/1-4/2 Runs, and with all of that offense, the ‘Claws had cause to celebrate their second straight win in the series…

Our Greensboro guys drop the Mothers’s Day Matinee, but this past week they came to play, and they walk away today, with a 4-2 Six-Game Series Success Story…

Top pitcher of the day for the Hoppers was the last man to take the mound…Dante Mendoza goes the eighth and ninth innings, and he allows 0 runs, on 0 hits, with 1 BB/3 K’s…Very impressive eighth inning effort by the ‘Claws Tommy McCollum, who faced three Hoppers, and he struck out the side…Three K today, for Tommy Mac..

With all that being said, it is now time to look ahead…Hoppers off on Monday, then on the road to Asheville for another six-game series beginning on Tuesday evening, at McCormick Field…
