Godwin & Maness to be Inducted Into Their Respective College Athletic Hall of Fames

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Head Coach Billy Godwin and Pitching Coach Seth Maness will be inducted into the Barton College Athletic Hall of Fame and the East Carolina (ECU) University Athletics Hall of Fame, respectively.

Godwin graduated from Barton College (formerly Atlantic Christian), in 1986 where he captured 19 wins during his career with the Bulldogs, helping to lead them to two District 26 regular-season crowns. He was named team captain in his senior year and won the Kiwanis Award for the Most Outstanding Male Student-Athlete in 1986. While at Atlantic Christian, he played for Dave Jauss, who has served as a coach at the Major League level and is currently with the New York Mets.

Godwin and four other former Barton athletes will be inducted during the ceremony on the Barton campus on Friday, October 20, at the Kennedy Family Theatre.

Maness graduated from ECU in 2011, being a four-time First-Team All-Conference USA selection. He helped ECU to 144 wins across four campaigns, including three 40-win seasons and three NCAA Regional appearances. In 2009, he was a member of the squad that earned the No. 16 overall seed and hosted the first on-campus regional in program history, defeating South Carolina in the Greenville Regional finals and advancing to the Chapel Hill Super Regional. At the end of his freshman season in 2008, during which he posted a 9-2 overall mark with a 3.57 ERA, Maness was named to a program-record five freshman All-America teams, and earned Collegiate Baseball and Ping!Baseball Third-Team All-America accolades and was named C-USA Freshman of the Year.

Currently, Maness has the all-time wins (38), strikeouts (334), starts (61), and innings pitched (411.2) at ECU. Maness was selected in the 11th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. Academically, he earned inclusion on four Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll lists and was an eight-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll selection.

Maness and three other former ECU athletes will be inducted during the ceremony on Friday, Oct. 20, at the 45th annual installment ceremony at Harvey Hall inside the Pete & Lynn Murphy Center.
