Greensboro College Football Wins On Senior Day to Close Out the Season

Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro Pride Football team finished the season on a high note on Senior Day by defeating Methodist University 27-21 Saturday at Pride Field. The Pride slammed the door late in the 4th quarter to seal the win and finish the season on a two game win streak.

Greensboro got on the board first early in the 1st quarter. Quarterback Alec Williams-Carr delivered a long touchdown pass to Tareek Smith to give the Pride a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, the Monarchs tied the game after QB Brandon Bullins threw his only touchdown pass of the day to Wade Thomas III.

The game stayed tied until late in the first half, when Tegan Griggs scored his first of two touchdowns of the game on a pass from Williams-Carr. The Pride would fumble the snap on the extra point attempt, and took a 13-7 lead into the halftime break.

Greensboro’s defense played outstanding all game long, and they came through with a key touchdown early in the 3rd quarter. Senior Qualene Noell forced a fumble and Tyler Alston picked up the ball and ran it all the way back for a touchdown.This score extended the Pride lead to 20-7.

Greensboro extended their lead to 27-7 in the 3rd quarter when Griggs caught his second touchdown of the afternoon. However, the Monarchs would not go away easy, scoring at the end of the quarter after forcing a fumble and returning it over 50 yards for a touchdown.

Methodist would cut the lead to 27-21 when Monarchs’ running back Keyshaun Pete took a handoff for 19 yards to the endzone early in the 4th quarter. The game remained 27-21 with Greensboro driving down the field late in the 4th. The Pride attempted a field goal with just over 3 minutes left, attempting to go up by two possessions. Unfortunately, kicker Alex Mora missed a field goal attempt wide left, and the Monarchs would get one last chance to win the game.

Methodist started their final drive with two pass plays to get the ball near midfield. Greensboro’s defense would clamp down on the Monarchs offense however, and came up with a huge fourth down stop with less than 2 minutes to play. The Pride offense was able to get one last first down on their final drive to seal the win.

With the victory, Greensboro finishes the season with two straight wins to finish 2-8 on the season.
