This Game is Not Over, This Game is Not Over!!! Wait a minute, our Game is Over and the Local Guys Won on Thanksgiving Day at WGMS, with Holland and Trogdons taking MVP Honors

Team Durham, the local team won today, and it was a very hard-fought game at Western Guilford Middle School, in the Turkey Bowl 2023…This game was intense, and in the above photo, you can see all of those who participated, and who attended today’s affair…

The final score was Team Durham 6 TDs, Team Trogdon 3 TDs…This game was all tied up at 3 TDs each at the end of the First Quarter which was extended to become the end of the First Half….

There was some popping, stopping, whopping, cropping, and even some mopping going on out there today….
(Did not see any pooping.)

Grayon Holland, a high school senior from the local Northwest Guilford High School, was named the Team Durham MVP…Greg Olson of FOX Sports said Holland was like a blur when he hits the edge, and Greg said Holland’s arm strength is comparable to that of Tanner Ballou, a very productive NWG football product….

The Trogdons, Justin Trogdon and Ty Trogdon, were the the MVPs from Team Trogdon/Morin/Fletcher….Ty Trogdon brought the heat today, and made it a tough day in the pocket for the Team Durham QBs…At times, Ty was almost unblockable…The former Southwestern Randolph HS defensive lineman was in the backfield, as soon as the ball was snapped, and he came in there like a Mack Truck or a Bulldozer, from his three-point stance…Justin Trogdon was making just unbelievable catches, and he was making plays like his life depended on it, and often times in this game, he was putting his life on the line….Thought he might be going home with a broken collar bone or separated shoulder/scapula, but these Trogdons are a tough bunch, Justin and his son Ty, Thank-You….

Full Team Trogdon…
Justin Trogdon-MVP
Ty Trogdon-MVP
Bryce Trogdon

Ian Morin
Nathan Hill
Ian Fletcher
Elizabeth Fletcher…Hill was last year’s MVP and Ian Flectcher was a previous MVP Winner…The Morins lead the New York Crew over to Greensboro every Thanksgiving….Oliver Fletcher was the team mascot today for Team Trogdon….

We talked Grayson Holland and his MVP journey, and today Grayson was doing it with his arms and his feet….Eric Davidson was fun to watch all day for Team D, as Davidson put up very good numbers with his yards after the catch…Doug Brown, with key receptions and TDs for Team Durham, Joey Kirkman with key grabs across the middle today…Enad Haddad/aka Fred Taylor wearing his Jacksonville Jaguars jersey today, and looking like Travis Etienne and even sometimes like Travis Kelce on his carries and receptions…Eric Davidson was running like Eric Dickerson, and with his shades, Eric D/Davidson was almost channeling ED/Eric Dickerson…..Joey Kirkman was pulling them in like Joey Galloway, and Doug Brown was bringing back thoughts of Doug Cockman and Bruce Bullington making game-changing plays…

**********Our Referee today was the distinguished Bryant Roche, high school football writer from the News and Record….Bryant a former All-Star D-lineman for Valdosta State University, down in Georgia…**********

Game was all tied up at 3-3 TDs at the halftime, but the second half belonged to Team Durham and their young QB MVP Grayson Holland, who reminds a lot of people of prime Josh Allen from the Buffalo Bills…Dual Threat, run and pass…They say NO Pain, NO Gain, well if that statement is true, then everyone who came today’s game gained something from this experience….

Who in the Sam Hill, or Nathan Hill got this game started???

It all began on a Thanksgiving Thursday back in the early 1990’s…The game was founded on the flat fields at Claxton Elementary School, with our band of warriors joining with the Mormans to make this an annual Holiday Tradition…At Claxton, at Guilford College, at the Western Guilford HS baseball field/outfield where we played two-on-two in the mud one year, then back to Guilford College, and now finally nesteled in on our field at the Western Guilford Middle School…

Western Guilford Middle School, this is the same field where I used to play quarterback, end, guard and tackle back in the day…..The coach would give you a Quarter, tell you to Get Back and to sit on the End of the bench, Guard the Water Bucket, and Tackle anyone that gets near it…My last year at Guilford Middle, I was the outstanding Offensive Lineman, the Team MVP on Defense, Team Captain, and other crazy things…But those days are LONG GONE….

Now we have to find some way to block the young Ty Trogdons, so he doesn’t kill our QB…We have to find ways to get the ball in Eric Davidson’s, Enad Haddad’s, Doug Brown’s, and Joey Kirkman’s hands…Try to find ways to slow down the Morins, the Fletchers, Nathan Hill, and all of those Trogdons…

If we gave out the Red Badge of Courage Award today, that would go to Justin Trogdon….I can say along with Billy Ray Cyrus, Some gave Some, but Justin Trogdon gave All….

Team Durham over Team Trogdon today, 6 TDs to 3 TDs, and we do not kick or run for PATs….36-18, the Final Score in Real Numbers…

Another Game/Year in the books, and how far can, or will this game Go On??? Well, you read about it all here today, and we will be sending next year’s results, in less than 365 days…

The Next Game is on the docket….Who will accept the challenge and return to the Western Guilford Middle School, for the 2024 Turkey Bowl???…..Let’s Go….Let’s Go…Let’s Go….Let’s Go….Let’s Go….

Game On, and it won’t be long until we do it again…Why stop now??? We are nowhere near That Finish Line…
(At least that is The Plan for now, and you may want to check with me again in the Morning for Total Verification.)

One more look at that outstanding team photo, and RIP Bruce Bullington, from our games back in the 90’s and early 2000’s….
