Greensboro Grasshoppers Sunday afternoon Baseball Report brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner: Kitchen Sink Sunday as Jersey Shore BlueClaws bring “The Sink” and MORE in 18-5 win over Hoppers

Greensboro Grasshoppers Sunday afternoon Baseball Report
brought to us by Mike Causey for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner…..

It was one of those not ‘good old fashioned’, but ‘bad old fashioned’ whippings on Sunday afternoon, at First National Bank Field….

The Jersey Shore BlueClaws made it four straight wins over the Greensboro Grasshoppers with their 18-5 win, and it was the Claws bringing everything they had with them on Sunday afternoon, including the “Kitchen Sink”…The Claws had the Sinker, the Stinker, the Splinker, the Shrinker, the Clinker and MORE…

It was ‘Sink or Swim Sunday’, during a tight first half pennant race, and the Hoppers ended up in the ‘Sink Mode’ in the afternoon matchup with the now First Place BlueClaws…It also ended up being “Save the Bullpen Sunday”, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers called on their infielder Maikol Escotto to bring on/in his batting practice style pitching, and cover for the home team’s bullpen in the ninth inning…This was the second appearance out there on the bump, for Escotto this season…Saturday night, the Hoppers went to outfielder P.J. Hilson on the hill, to cover for the pen…

Four straight wins by the Jersey Shore BlueClaws over the Grasshoppers, and on Sunday, the Claws banged out 23 hits, leading to their 18 runs…The Greensboro Grasshoppers have been leading the South Atlantic League in home runs all season long, but on Sunday afternoon, it was the Jersey Shore BlueClaws who were stealing the “Long Gone” stage from the Hoppers…

The BlueClaws smacked Five Home Runs, and they hit for the “Home Run Cycle”…..The Jersey HR Roll Call reads like this:
Andrick Nava-Solo HR in the ninth inning…
Jordan Dissin-Two-Run HR in the first inning…
Leandro Pinesa-Two Run HR in the eighth inning…
Justin Crawford-Three-Run HR in the sixth inning…
Emaarion Boyd-Grand Slam in the first inning…Those homers account for 12 of the Claws 18 runs…

Jersey led 7-0 after a half-inning of the game…The Hoppers cut the lead to 7-2 on a two-run homer from Joshua Palacios, in the bottom of the first inning, but after that, the rout was really on…Three more runs for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by Nick Cimillo’s two-run Double…

This game was gone very quickly and the overall finishing result took a while to complete, but by the time the Hoppers hit the street, to go get something to eat after the game, the fact that they got beat, and you could smell that defeat and it wasn’t sweet, but it is neat to know this same bunch of Grasshoppers will be right back in battle mode, when the hit the highway, and head over to Winston-Salem to take on the Dash, on Tuesday night…Things will be all right…The next chapter in this Hoppers 2024 season is in sight, and if ask Lonnie White(Jr.) he would tell that his teammates and White still have some that special Dynomite in their bats, and they will conjure up a special plan to take down the Dash this week…

It is over…Time to Go Home…This one is over, with the video playing, and not too many people staying around after the kids ran the bases when the game was over, and Gavin Grace could clear out the place, and we all could begin to erase that bad taste in our mouths after that 18-5 shellacing…

Time to move for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and time to get ready for the WS Dash, on Tuesday…

Just a few of the game essentials from Sunday’s Hoppers-BlueClaws afternoon meeting, at First National Bank Field…

Jersey Shore BlueClaws 18, Greensboro Grasshoppers 5

  1. Why do they have to keep using non-pitchers in the late innings? On Saturday, I believe the game was still tied and only in the 6th inning and they brought in an outfielder who had never pitched for them and who hadn’t even warmed up. He gave up several runs due to walking guys. Don’t they have a bullpen?

  2. Seems to be an on-going theme for the team this season….INF Maikol Ecotto has now appeared in two games for the Grasshoppers this season…OF P.J. Hilson made his first trip to the mound for the Hoppers on Saturday night…

When Escotto came into the game on Sunday afternoon, the game was already gone…Saving and wasting your already spent bullpen after a long, tough series vs. Jersey Shore…

On Saturday night, pretty sure the score was 8-6 Jersey Shore, when Hilson took over on the hill, and he had pitched in two games last season for San Jose in the SF Giants organization, and the Hoppers might have thought he had a legitimate chance to give them a chance to win the game…Hilson gave up 0 runs, on 1 hit, with 2 BBs and 0 K…So I think there was hope that Hilson could help the worn out bullpen, but with Escotto on Sunday, he was trying to help the team/Grasshoppers get to Monday…

Hoppers have a decent bullpen, but the parent Pirates will set the pen and the starting rotation up in a way they want it to go, and if you have to change from that plan/idea during a long hard week, the pen is shot, and you are left back at the drawing board…

    Just a few thoughts….
