Hamilton & Barnard Break School Records as UNCG Track Races at Liberty Open
LYNCHBURG, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s and women’s track teams competed in the two-day Liberty Open this weekend.
Andrew Hamilton and Samuel Barnard each broke school records. Five from the women’s side and 11 from the men’s side clocked in personal best times.
Hamilton, with a second place finish out of 50 competitors in the 1000-meter run, clocked in a personal best time of 2:29.96. This time broke UNCG’s previous record of 2:30.93 which was set by Terry Wyatt on Feb. 12, 2010. Glodi Mvovi, who rounded out the Spartan competitors who earned a top 10 mark in the 1000-meter run, finished the event with a personal best time of 2:35.31, taking home eighth.
Barnard finished eighth overall out of 128 competitors in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:53.48. This time broke UNCG’s previous mark of 1:53.57 which was held by Jeff Williams from back in 2006. This time places him second on The Southern Conference (SoCon) performance list. Mvovi and Lane Prochaska also ran personal best times in the event.
Freshman Travis McFadden clocked in a personal best time of 24.08 in the 200-meter run. He finished 11th out of 102 competitors.
In the mile, Evan Pena led the Spartans with his 13th-place finish out of 121 competitors and personal best time of 4:21.16 in the mile. Freshman Logan Ruffner also ran a personal best time in the event, finishing the mile in 4:25.29 and placing 21st.
Colin Keck and Pena were two of the five Spartans that earned a top 10 mark in the 3000-meter run. Keck placed fourth out of 102 competitors with a personal best time of 8:35.07, while Pena earned ninth place with his time of 8:42.20. Judah Weesner and Spencer Connick ran personal best times in the event.
The UNCG men’s 4×400-meter relay team ran a time of 3:28.08, which is currently fourth in the SoCon.
Three of the five Spartan women that ran the mile, finished with personal best times. Vicky Sosa’s time of 5:14.16 paced the Blue & Gold as she finished 14th overall. Her time is currently 12th on the SoCon performance list. Emma Berrier, who earned 35th out of 88 competitors, ran the event in 5:26.38 for a new personal best. Tenley Douglass ran the mile and placed 41st with a personal best time of 5:29.58.
Hailey Meyers ran a new personal best time in the 800-meter run, while Kiarrah Williams earned her new career best time in the 200-meter run.

The men and women travel to Allendale, Michigan, to compete at GVSU Big Meet on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Kelly Family Sports Center, hosted by Grand Valley State University.
