The Kiser Defense was just so tough on Northern Guilford from the outset of this ballgame…Coach Titus Duff, the Kiser leader, had his girls playing defense and they were covering up the entire court…Very intense and aggressive nature from Kiser, and they did not let up…Up-and-down their bench, the Kiser Tigers were playing Defense like their lives depended on it today, and in many ways it did, because the “D”, got them the “W”……

Boys Final score in the Championship Game today at the Jackson Middle School:
Southwest Guilford Cowboys 37, Jamestown Tigers 36
SWG(15-2)/JMS(12-5)…Zymier hit a Free Throw for SWG to win it with just seconds left in the contest….
The Game is playing back for you now at GreensboroSports Radio…
Video Interview from the postgame on the way…
CLICK BELOW for that Video Interview with Coach Turner, Elijah Fapojuwo and Nolan….Good stuff for you folks here…
Boys game was a back-and-forth war…SWG would run out to a 10 points lead, and then Jamestown would come right back and the Tigers would go up by six…Halftime score was 21-14 SWG, and that was a quick first half…Another defensive battle happening in this one, and the inside players could not dominate, because they were playing so hard they would cancel each other out….Guards like Simmons from Jamestown and Zymier from SWG became key factors in this game….Nolan and Khalid from SWG were taking and making big shots, while Fapojuwo and McFadden, plus Trace were locking horns in the lane…Fapojuwo and Trace for SWG, and McFadden for JMS…The inside battles were almost classic…Trace must have had at five blocked shots for SWG…
Again at the half, it was a low-scoring defensive war, with the score 21-14 SWG…End of Third Quarter, 28-21 in favor of SWG…But Jamestown would not sit down…The Tigers, behind Simmons kept on coming…Score was 36-36 with just two seconds left in the game, and that is right about the time Zymier nailed his Free Throw that proved to be the Game-Winner for the SWG Cowboys….Second County Title in the past Three Years for Southwest Guilford…SWG lost to NEG in OT last season, and they defeated NEG in a tight one, the year before at Eastern Guilford Middle School…Last year we were at Grimsley for the Championship Games…WOW, 37-36, and that is one that will stick with you for awhile…About time to bring in the Ric Flair Chant after that game….
Great night for Championship Basketball over at the Jackson Middle School…
SWG Scoring:Nolan 11 points, Fapojuwo 8, Khalid 7, Trace 6, Zymier 5…Should add up to 37 points, and it does…Extra push coming from Khalid and Zymier…
JMS Scoring:Simmons with 15 points, McFadden 10, Chote 7, Southerland 2, Smith 2…Got to say, SWG Cowboys did a very good job on McFadden tonight, and at times they forced to change his shots, and forced to change how he was playing his game….Simmons at guard, picked up a lot of the Tigers slack, and Simmons was smooth and did not crack or break under the pressure, he was there and ready, all night long for the Jamestown Tigers….
Would like to hear from some people that were at the games on Monday…What did you think??? Enjoy the games, and what about the layout there at the Jackson Middle School Gym??? Jackson did a good job running the event with their AD Clarissa Johnson in charge and help from Brian Avolio, the AD from Kiser, Ursala Williams the AD from Kernodle, and Steve Sexton, the AD from Western Guilford Middle School…Good to see Angie Polk there, the Guilford County Schools AD….
So did all like what they saw today, and how does it compare to previous years at Grimsley, Eastern Guilford, Jamestown Middle, Western Guilford, or at Southwest Guilford???? Those are stops that I can remember from previous years….
Final game for Coach Rashad Fant at Jamestown Middle with coach leading the boys team to the finals as the #8 seed…Going to miss Coach Fant…Still remember when his sons played for the Ragsdale Tigers team….He did a heck of a job this year, and he will be missed…
Give your thoughts on today’s/Monday’s games from the fans or even more from the Coaches’ perspectives too….
Let us know….Great Season of Middle School Basketball in Guilford County…..
Also a real BIG shoutout to Coach Hank Bullard who helped us with the Boys Championship Game broadcast….Listen in for Coach Bullard on the replay of the boys game…The game is playing back now, and Coach Bullard did a great job on the commentary and analysis….It was like having the old University of Virginia coach Pete Gillen in the house….Coach Bullard current boys head coach for the Lincoln Hornets, and former girls varsity basketball coach for the Smith Golden Eagles….Great having Coach Bullard on the broadcast and he can break it down, and do it well…..Great Work there, and be sure to listen back to the games on Replay, at GreensboroSports Radio….
Also thanks to our Tech Man, Don Moore, who makes sure the games keep rolling….

Would like to see the games played at high school gyms in the future. More space and overall better accommodations.
Yeah last year the championship games were held at Grimsley
Take the Championships to Smith High School next year, then over to Dudley, and then to Page, and then back to Grimsley. Rotate each year among those four city schools. Guilford County owns those schools so it shouldn’t cost anything to play the games at the bigger gyms at those high schools. Light bill maybe but that would not be any more than what the light bill would be to hold the games at the Middle Schools on the same days. Smith, Dudley, Page, and then back over to Grimsley.
Let’s look at it.
How about we just play the games and do it for fun. This is getting way too serious. Just play the games and forget Championships, trophies, and things like that. Just make it fun for the kids with much less stress and pressure.
They are making Middle School ball like high school, college and the pros. So much attention and so-called big time games.
I say go back to the basics and make it simple again and let every kid that tries out have a spot on the team and give them all a chance to just have fun.
Never really understood why they even keep score. These are just young children and they need to be having fun and not worried about who carries home the Trophy and the Title.
Make it fun again, and leave out the big buildings and the bright lights.
Smith and Page gyms are the same size as Jackson’s middle school gym. Jamestown middle’s gym is bigger than both.
Page and Smith do seem similar, thinking their gyms were both built and opened at about the same time…In appearance, Grimsley seems to be the largest capacity gym in the city, especially with a lower and upper deck…And Dudley has the lower and upper deck too, but Grimsley still looks to a bit bigger capacity-wise than Dudley…Western Guilford Middle School has one of the newer gyms in the county, and it is of decent size….Jamestown, Western Guilford, those two look very similar in size…
Still think at all times that the winning and losing teach character and how to handle different types of situations, the Good, the Bad, and even sometimes the Ugly….Keep score and you need to show and teach how to win and lose….Life-teaching situations there….Life is fun, but it is not always fun and you have to learn to live with it….
Hogwash, I’m saying, cause we need more teams, more games and more Championships. These kids need this kind of experience and play the games at the bigger high school gyms is what I say. Case Closed and season over till next year.
