  1. For Dudley to be almost depleted of talent in the off season they’re a tough group. It makes you wonder how this game would go if they were loaded like they were the previous 5 years.

  2. There was well over 300 yards of penalties combined tonight over at Smith High. The Eagles tried to muddy up the game, and it worked. Page won by a small margin.

  3. Yeah, for Dudley to lose 25-26 Seniors from Graduation, 5-6 Returning Starters to Transferring, including Andrews Rogers to Grimsley. Losing 3 WRs that gain over 1,000 yards the previous 2 yrs. Starting QB, plus their Offensive Cordinator Coach, DB Coach and Others. It makes you wonder how those past 5 yrs would have gone. Grimsley had the depth and overall size, but Dudley played them for 3 and Half Quarters. Dudley lose several 6-2 DBs from last yr. That was the difference too

  4. Oh please give me a break. We lost cause our better guys were there last year?? That’s the best you got? I do have to admit that Dudley played well in the first half but you guys need a passing game to go anywhere in the playoffs. Solid defense for Dudley and your QB can run But in the end you lost to THIS year’s team by 4 TDs. I suspect the outcome would have been the same if we played you for the past 5 years but no need in speculating on that cause I ain’t got a time machine.

  5. Naaaaaaah, Dudley was not going to beat Grimsley. Even at full strength they didn’t win a state title against teams that weren’t as good as Grimsley. Also, Northeast isn’t as good as they should be, even with all of the Dudley kids. Give Grimsley their due. They ran the gauntlet last year, for real.

  6. @P now you know games are played differently when it’s against teams/players that are just down the street vs in the playoffs. Take 2022 for example, Page was what a 5 win team and almost beat a Grimsley team that went to states or last season when Southeast scored 21 on Grimsley in the playoffs at half. Dudley would’ve beaten Grimsley with the talent they had the last 5 years. This team Dudley has got depleted of talent this off season. The difference tonight was 3 big plays from Grimsley that broke the game open and outside of that Dudley defense held their own. One player got picked on for Dudley but you take just one of their transfers back in the secondary it’s a one score game. You put 6’3 Deese in that secondary that transferred and those two deep touchdown passes on 4th down are not completed. The game was a lot closer than the score. Andrew Rodgers was Grimsley’s best defender tonight and he should still be playing for Dudley. He saved Grimsley’s defense on a few key 3rd and 4th down stops.

  7. Grimsley will continue to win games with players from other schools and then act like everything is homegrown organic.

  8. Again you got a ask yourself why kids are transferring to Grimsley. Better talent, better coaching, better academic school. They have no need to recruit just like what has happened for the past many years in high school players transfer to better their situation. Nothing bad or evil about that and they all do it. Stop making excuses and take your L just like you would have taken last year, and the year before, and the year before….

  9. I don’t have a dog (or a Panther or Whirlie) in the fight, but it’s f’ing hilarious to hear Dudley people complaining about Grimsley’s transfers. Most of Dudley’s football success over the last 10-15 years was built on the backs of kids who didn’t live in the Dudley attendance zone and got on the team by attending the “Academy” at A&T, a lot of them from Southeast’s attendance zone. Hell, Hendon and Simeon lived across the street from Southwest. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Guilford County is a zero-sum game with only X number of good football players to go around. If somebody’s getting better (Northeast), somebody’s getting worse (Dudley). Grimsley did exactly what Dudley did for years: find scams and programs to get the kids they wanted into their program.

  10. @336, you can’t apply certain scenarios and come to a conclusion that isn’t supported by consistent evidence. The fact is over the last 5 years Dudley hasn’t been of the caliber to win against the top teams in the state, and that wasn’t even in the premier classification (4A). If you won in 4A you had to run through more of the top teams in the state than the other classifications. Last years run foe Grimsley put a stamp on it. Yes, Grimsley had games with close moments against teams with less talent, BUT they won, and by a large margin in most cases. Dudley had talent, but talent doesn’t automatically make a championship team. If Dudley had won a state title I would say you have an argument. Either way, I watched Dudley and Grimsley play over the last five seasons and Dudley wasn’t going to beat Grimsley.

  11. To follow up on my earlier comment, Steven and Darryl are excellent football coaches, among the best in North Carolina. But I have more respect for the dudes who may not win state titles but win consistently with their own kids, like Earl Bates and Erik Westberg.

  12. @REALITY CHECH
If you want to go down that road, it’s several reasons why those student players decided to attend the Dudley Academy, and it may have something you don’t want to hear or accept. Take Southeast since you bought that up. Many students, along that Alamance Church Road, Mt Zion Baptist Church area was made to go to Southeast, when they was closer to Dudley. Many students and friends of my Son spoke on RACISM and INDIFFERENCE at Southeast by the Old Football Coaches and Teachers and Community. Many Student Players spoke on the Style of just Running 99% was not to their liking. In other words they felt more connected to Dudley and that Culture and Community vs Southeast. The same at one point can said about Grimsley, Page and Southeast bumping into Dudley District. Dudley school is built to House 2,000 Students, but the Enrollment has never reached 1,600 since the New Constructions. Why, because GCS has Grimsley, Page, Southeast coming into Dudley Communities since the 80’s. Dudley has the smallest District of those other schools. Every school had a option to have a Academy, only a few decided to have it and many didn’t. Then you mentioned about all those Players that came to Dudley. But during that time you didn’t mention how many players left PAGE, WESTERN and DUDLEY to attend Grimsley. I live in Western District, 1.5 away, Job 2.1 miles away. Since 2003. I can tell you that Western fell off because all the Kids that Transferred to Grimsley, Page fell off because Grimsley too. Northeast fell off because of Northern. That is why Fomer NE Coach Pursley was so upset and spoke to the Greensboro News and Record about Northern stealing or luring half his players. Plus Demograpics of the Non Black Students that left NE to attend Northern because they didn’t want to be around Blk Students or Communities when they moved into NE district. But getting back to Dudley, Yes Players came into Dudley district, but many transferred in Football, Basketball Boys and Girls, Baseball, Etc and went to Grimsley, Page, GDS, HP Weslyn and Northern. Right now Grimsley is the HOT SCHOOL due to Coaches, Stadium, Scoreboard, Sponsors, Heck you have WGHP Emily Byrd during a Hype Video from their News Station on the score board. Who wouldn’t want to see that on Friday Nights. I’m not talking all this from hearsay, My Son who attended Western his 9th Grade Yr, but transferred to NCAT Middle School from 10th-12th, friends with Hendon Hooker to Emmanual Moseley and players/ students that attended SE, PAGE, GRIMSLEY, NW, WESTERN, RAGSDALE, SE talked about their schools and why they transferred or attended. Plus the Barbershop I attended had Coaches and Players coming in from all of Greensboro, E. Forsyth, Ragsdale, Burlington School, Smith, Glenn and Etc!!! Football and Basketball. It’s a lot going on around here than you will never know.

  13. @Perry Saunders Same old excuses to justify whatever shady s–t has been going on and continues to go on at a number of GCS schools. It’s wrong no matter who’s cheating.

  14. @Perry Saunders Don’t like the high school where your kids live? Move. That’s what the rest of us whose kids aren’t recruited or Black have to do. Not everyone can afford a private school, and most of the charters in NC are just a way to resegregate the schools without paying tuition.

  15. So there are lots of parents moving kids throughout the county. All the schools mentioned have a high minority attendance. Dudley has been dominate in their conference for years. So if Dudley loses a football game they are suddenly the victim of grand thief and racism. Again please give me a break.

  16. The academy are Dudley is actually a valid reason to go there. It isn’t a scam. The kids start off taking AP classes off rip and they take their senior year classes at NC A&T, which is a quality academic institution. That being said, every kid won’t get into the academy and Dudley isn’t the program for every kid. Honestly, most kids would be better off at their home school. When it comes to Souteast Guilford the 99% running was before Bates and Tinsley. That hasn’t been their MO in a long time. Actually, the last two Grimsly QB’s were Southeast Middle kids. Fazion probably needed to move to get the exposure he was looking for. If Tinsley had stayed it was going to become a destination school and truth be told Bates can coach. Proof is the playoff game against Regan and the playoff game against Grimsley last year. Realistically, they never should have been in that game.
