On the Road to the High School Football Practices: First Day of Practice, with Coach Darryl Brown from the Grimsley Whirlies

Hit the road this morning for the first of what we hope will be many interviews with our high school football coaches, prior to the first official games of the 2026 season…

Went by Page HS first this morning, but no Page Pirates in the house that Kirby built, so I made my next move over to Grimsley HS, and stopped in at the place Coach Bob Jamieson put on the map many moons ago, but Coach Darryl Brown has made Grimsley a destination for football followers in recent years, and Coach Brown is keeping the Whrilies on the map….

My first high school football practice was way back in 1972, and there are lots of memories of those good ole days, but here we are here now, in 2026, and we want to keep our tradition going, of hearing from all of the Guilford County football coaches, prior to the new season/as we approach the new season…

I try to find all the morning practice teams, and then find the afternoon practice teams, and start out with the schools closest to my home, and then keep spreading out, as we try to cover the entire Guilford County terrain…

Page used to the morning thing, but not at it today, and Grimsley has been on the morning run for quite a while now, and I remember Coach Brown, when he was down at Southern Guilford HS, he did the morning thing there too…

Well so much for the introduction, let’s bring on the man, that knows whats going on, inside the Grimsley Whirlies High School football program…
