I’ll say what no one wants to say: Dudley needs to make some adjustments to the program. They may still win 6A, but with the resources, talent, and culture at that school, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be a consistent Top 10 program in the state every year.
As good as Grimsley has been, I believe Dudley has the highest ceiling of any program in Greensboro if the right people are in place. You’re not going to win every game, but getting embarrassed shouldn’t happen—especially with the talent and resources Dudley has.
I watched the HighschoolOT interview with Cardinal Gibbons coach prior to the season and the interviewer skipped over Dudley when previewing Gibbons schedule. It took the coach to pay his respects to the program in order for them to be mentioned.
Cardinal Gibbons-38
Dudley-6
3rd quarter
Cardinal Gibbons ranked #7 in the state
I commend Dudley for a tough nonconference schedule. , a strong SE Raleigh team next
Getting close to the final in Raleigh…Was it 45-6??? Cardinal Gibbons, very tough at Dudley last season
Cardinal Gibbons-45
Dudley-6
Final
#27 ranked SE Raleigh up next week
Dudley has a tough non-conference schedule, they started 0-3 last year and finish Dudley. Back then everyone wanted to play at Dudley but now all them kids are going to Grimsley cause they are whats hot right now.
Congrats, Hendon Hooker!!, keep grinding #Dboyz
Hendon Hooker, now on the roster as a QB for the Tennessee Titans…Congrats to the Hooker Family, Alan, Wendy, Alston, Nile, and Hendon…
Northern Guilford year will be tough. Offense is not as good as last year.

RALEIGH, N.C. – A dominant display in all three phases put the Cardinal Gibbons football team on the front foot to start the season.
The seventh-ranked Crusaders toppled 336 area code stalwart Dudley, 45-6 on Saturday in Raleigh. Coming off a 12-2 campaign a year ago, head coach Steven Wright and his squad never took their foot off the gas in their season opener.
Notre Dame commit Xavier Hasan set the tone with a pair of early tackles for loss defensively. The Crusaders would force a punt on the Panthers’ opening drive, and their offense would cash in early.
After taking a sack on the previous play, quarterback Mason Karras rushed for a 38-yard score on third and seven to put Cardinal Gibbons on the board. The hosts continued their aggressive start as a sack by Tommy Grigera forced the Panthers’ offense off the field again.
A botched snap on the punt led to a Ferrell Price incomplete pass, forcing a turnover on downs. One play later, running back Truth Caesar doubled the Cardinal Gibbons lead with a 10-yard rushing touchdown.
Junior linebacker Skylar Alston got in on the act for the Crusader defense, ending another Panthers drive with a sack. On the ensuing possession, the hosts only needed one play to get back in the end zone.
Caesar, who had a big preseason with a pair of nice performances at the HighSchoolOT jamboree, kept his momentum going with a 69-yard rushing touchdown. The sophomore standout had plenty of holes to run through thanks to excellent blocking from the Cardinal Gibbons offensive line.
The Panthers found some life in the second quarter thanks to a big run by Michael Boone Jr. for their opening first down of the day. This came after Cardinal Gibbons jumped offside on a fourth-and-short situation.
A pass interference penalty on fourth-and-13 kept Dudley’s first promising drive of the day going. Then, they finally cashed in after Price found Vincent Carmack for a 25-yard connection to open proceedings for the visitors.
However, their positive drive would be countered by a quick response from Hasan. He ran back the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown to put the Crusaders back up by three scores.
Dudley tried to respond with a lengthy drive that took 7:53 off the clock. However, multiple penalties forced the Panthers backwards, and their chances dwindled. In the end, senior defensive end Griffin Cockerham, the NC State recruit, pressured Price to throw the ball away on fourth down to end the first half.
Although they only had nine offensive snaps in the first 24 minutes, Cardinal Gibbons kept playing efficient football as the third quarter commenced. Karras found Alex Padilla, who shed a defender and raced for a 38-yard touchdown in the first 32 seconds of the period.
After forcing another punt, the Crusaders took their next drive down for points. Despite their drive stalling in plus territory, Tucker Toland knocked in a field goal from 46 yards away to extend the hosts’ lead.
Tack on a third rushing touchdown from Caesar and the running clock was summoned with 1:13 left in the third quarter. This came after the Panthers muffed a punt after they got their first stop of the contest.
Crusaders defensive back Danny Rahe made a circus catch for an interception early in the fourth quarter to put more emphasis on a dominant display in all facets of the game. Coach Wright did receive a disqualification late in the contest due to multiple sideline warnings,
Cardinal Gibbons (1-0) will face Hough, the defending NCHSAA 8A state champion and HighSchoolOT’s number one team in the state, next Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Meanwhile, Dudley (0-1) looks to regroup next Saturday when they face Southeast Raleigh at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

Congrats to Fazion Brandon on winning the starting job at Tennessee!! JOE DAVIS PARK!!!
Hendon is clearly fourth on the Titans’ depth chart at QB. His best chance to make a roster or a practice squad is to show out in the final preseason game and catch on as a practice squad QB again with another team. This post from a Titans site says it succinctly:

Looked like Hooker was the third man on Sunday night for the Titans behind Cam Ward, and Will Levitz…Not sure, but these days many teams only keep 2 QBs, so best to keep the bags packed…
