Greensboro Grasshoppers(36-28)
Winston-Salem Dash(34-29)

Big win for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, now at 8-7 vs. the WS Dash for the season, and a very big win for Po-Yu Chen, who we are calling LTD Chen, for his work after giving up back-to-back-to-back singles to begin the ball game…Dash singles by Terrell Tatum, Andy Atwood, and DJ Gladney to begin things in the first inning…After those singles, and with the Dash just able to convert all of that into one run, LTD Chen, with the LTD going for Limit-the-Damage Chen, and that is what that kid did…He was able to limit the Dash Damage, and by doing that in the top of the first inning, then Chen totally settled down and took down the Dash the rest of the way…Just three more hits off Chen after those first three singles, and Chen was in until the end of the seventh inning…Chen was simply magnificent, and carried the Hops on the Hill until the top of the eighth inning…Then Grant ‘Righty’ Ford came on, and Ford drove the Dash into the submissive finish, as he gave up just one hit over his two innings of closing competition..

LTD/Limit the Damage Chen and ‘Righty’ Ford were so very efficient for the Greensboro Grasshoppers out there on the hill, on Thursday night, at First National Bank Field…Chen showed a lot of character out there with his pitching outing, and Ford was there to deliver The Finish…

At the plate for the Hops, they got some real nice chops, with Mike Jarvis showing his at-bat prowess by giving the Hoppers a Home Run and a Triple, and the Jarvis triple went off the glove of the Dash center fielder Terrell Tatum and the jarring Jarvis HR left the yard, out there in center…Jarvis with 3 RBI, and he now has 38 RBI on the season…Jase Bowen left the place, when he planted his home run on top of the left field hill, and Bowen added a double to his game-tearing totals…Bowen now with 14 home runs, and 53 RBI for the season…Bowen goes 3-4, with the homer, the double, two runs scored and one RBI..Jarvis was 2-4/HR/Triple/2 Runs/3 RBI…

That sort of sets the table for the Hoppers and their Steak n Shake Players of the Game with Jarvis, Bowen, and Chen taking home the game honors at home…More from the Hopper on offense finds Tres Gonzalez 2-4/2 Runs/RBI, Will Matthiessen 0-3/SAC Fly RBI, Ernny Ordonez 1-3/HR/BB/2 RBI, Wyatt Hendrie 2-4/Double/Run…That is your Hoppers offense right there…

The Dash with 7 hits spread among 7 different players…Dash doubles from Taishi Nakawake and Loidel Chapelli…The Dash’ starting pitcher Hunter Dollander went two innings, giving up 0 runs, on one hit, with a BB, and three K’s…Dash reliever Jared Kelley allowed four Hopper runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts…Four innings from Kelly as he takes the loss, and then Ernesto Jaquez goes one inning, and the Hops hit for three runs on three hits…Kelley and Jaquez, along with Adisyn Coffey gave up Hopper homers….

A very solid win by the Hoppers and LTD Chen on Thursday night….

Winston-Salem drops third straight, falls 8-1 to Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC– The Winston-Salem Dash struck first in Thursday night’s game three matchup with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, but a scoreless ensuing eight innings led to an 8-1 defeat.

After Terrell Tatum, Andy Atwood and DJ Gladney each knocked a single to lead off the first, Wilfred Veras grounded out to drive in 1 run. Hunter Dollander got the start for the Dash, marking his third appearance of the year for Winston-Salem.

He struck out two and retired Greensboro in order in the bottom of the first, and he held the Grasshoppers scoreless in the second, as well. Dollander’s night was concluded after two scoreless innings of one-hit, three-strikeout ball.

Po-Yu Chen settled down on the mound for Greensboro after the first, surrendering 0 runs and just three hits across the following six innings. The Dash bullpen couldn’t keep the Grasshoppers at bay, though, and Jared Kelley took the bulk of the damage.

In the bottom of the third, Mike Jarvis tripled to drive in Tres Gonzalez for the tying run, and Will Matthiessen brought Jarvis home via sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead in the next at-bat. The Grasshoppers stayed hot in the fourth, as Ernny Ordonez clubbed a 2-run homer to left center to give Greensboro a 4-1 lead.

Kelley tightened up in the fifth and sixth, and his final line included four innings, four hits, 4 runs and four strikeouts. Ernesto Jaquez came on for the bottom of the seventh, and after he gave up an RBI single to Gonzalez, Jarvis launched a 2-run homer to left center to extend Greensboro’s lead to 7-1.

Taishi Nakawake led off the eighth with a double, but the Dash couldn’t cash in. Grant Ford struck out a pair and made it out of the frame unscathed, and Greensboro continued to pile on the runs in the bottom of the inning.

Bowen knocked a solo shot to left field, giving the Grasshoppers an 8-1 advantage. Bowen had three hits on the night, and three other Grasshoppers tallied multi-hit outings. The Dash couldn’t spark a comeback in the ninth and fell 8-1 for their third consecutive defeat.

Kelley was charged with the loss, his third of the season, and Chen picked up the win for Greensboro. The Dash are back in action against the Grasshoppers Friday night, still seeking their first win of the series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. from First National Bank Field.
