On the crowded Kiser Middle School practice field, the Tigers debuted their new, faster oriented offense in a scrimmage against The Academy at Lincoln.

After the scrimmage, a sweaty but smiling Coach Porter reflected on his team’s performance. “I want to start by thanking Lincoln for coming over and scrimmaging us again this year. It went extremely well,” he said, clearly impressed. “We ran our A-offense against the A-defense and then B against B. Our coaches were on the field with the guys, and it was a great way to work on our tempo.”

Porter, a coach known for his fundamentals, was especially excited about his players’ attitudes. “I really liked what I saw out there,” he said. “The grit, the drive—you can’t teach that. We got a good look at our new young guys and started figuring out who will be on the A team. This is a young group, and we’re going to lean on that speed. When you come to a game this year you are going to see that speed and tempo. We want to be more agile and mobile and keep the defense on its toes all year.”

The Tigers will take their new, uptempo game on the road next Wednesday for their first official contest against Western Middle School.
