The Greensboro Grasshoppers pulled one out in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday afternoon at First Horizon Park. Brandon “Spike” McDougall hit a two-out, two-strike single into right field off the glove of the Hickory Crawdad first baseman and with that base hit the Hoppers had the win.
The Grasshoppers won the game 2-1 and McDougall was credited with the game-winning RBI, while Chris Hatcher scored the game-winning run from third after walking to open up the bottom of the ninth. Daniel Garcia homered for the Hoppers to give them the early 1-0 lead but it was left up to designated hitter McDougall to lift the Hoppers into the victory column.
Reliever Blake Jones got the win his second of the year to go with seven saves out of the bullpen. The Hoppers are now 18-12 overall and will be on the road for the next week. They return home to First Horizon Park on Tuesday May 15.Â
On Sunday afternoon it was game winner, game winner, game winner, game winner for the Grasshoppers as they topped Hickory 2-1.
