Let’s start out with our early games, looking at the 7pm kickoffs with most of the Mid-State 3-A Teams going at 7, and then the Metro 4-A teams taking off with their kickoffs at 7:30pm…..
Smith(2-4/0-3) at Southern Guilford(2-4/1-2) 7pm
Looks one of those pick-em games here, and do you just go ahead and go with the home team, and watch for them to grab ahold of the Home Team Advantage…Southern Guilford does have a very versatile WR/DB/Return man in the likes of Travis Covington…He may be the ace in the hold, that changes how this game ends up…Smith has athletes, but it has been hard getting the right athletes in the correct spots for Smith…SG Seth Davis is sophomore leader for the Storm, and we will see if he can lead his team to victory…RJ Scott also a do-it-all man for SG…Smith with key men that are also basketball players, Cowan and Palmore that could give the Golden Eagles a boost…
Dudley(6-0/3-0) at Northeast Guilford(3-3/2-1) 7pm
Crawford and Jeffries rotate at QB for Dudley, with LJ Southern and Jayden Brown at RB, while Bartley, Newkirk, Neely, and Lee are the WRs that roll…Dakota Brown, Jordan Ratliff, Andrew Rogers, and Jalile Elliot lead the Dudley D-Line, with Robert McCollum pacing the linebackers, with Jerron Blackwell pushing the DBs for Dudley to success…NEG with solid QB Tristan Tucker, steady RB Tre Alexander, and WRs who step up in Aaryn Tate and Ashton Timberlake…Too many athletes for Dudley…
Eastern Guilford(3-3/3-0) at WS Atkins(1-5/1-2) 7pm
EG is becoming the real deal…Wildcats with three straight conference wins, and they have men like LBs Samari Smith, Junior Solomon, DL Xavier Wilson, and RB Caleb Creech, plus we haven’t even got started yet with Steven Murray at WR/DB and kick returns…Plus fast-rising QB Javion Majette is now becoming the take-charge QB that can lead his ‘Cats…Eastern Guilford is on the move, and they are moving in the right direction…
High Point Central(0-6/0-3) at Rockingham County(4-2/2-1) 7pm
Rockingham County is only averaging around 9 points per game, but Austin Theory says this week the Cougars will roar with much more and that they will score at least 34, points vs. HP Central…Just a rough year for the Bison, and it has not gotten any easier, as each week rolls off of the schedule…
Grimsley(6-0/3-0) at Ragsdale(2-4/0-3) 7:30pm
If I have my games correct, this will be Ragsdale’s Homecoming game, and if the Friday night game is anything like the Thursday night game at Jamieson Stadium, the Friday night game at Kenneth Miller Stadium in Jamestown could end up being a Grimsley waltz, just before the Homecoming Dance gets under way…Faizon Brandon likes the cooler weather, and the Grimsley QB is just getting warmed up…RB Mitchell Summers runs like it is Haloween Night and he is going door-to-door scoring as many touchdowns as he can…There are other offensive weapons, including Hudson Cooper, Kaden Catoe, DJ Howerton, and more…Bryce Davis spearheads the Grimsley “D” and with Andre Hill up front, plus Ryan Debow helping to keep the secondary stable, Grimsley is so loaded that the Whirlies are telling other teams to take a number…Ragsdale has Fabian Diggs, and the key will be for Diggs to have a big game, and for Diggs not to get dinged up, as he attempts to out-run Grimsley, while also trying to run away from the Whirlies…Diggs can not do it all, and he needs some help from his fellow-Tigers…Everybody could be seen calling out for help, as the face the Grimsley Whirlies of 2024…
Northern Guilford(6-0/3-0) at Northwest Guilford(5-1/2-1) 7:30pm
Nighthawks and the Vikings in what looks like what will be the game in the Metro, that tells us who finishes behind the Grimsley Whirlies…We talked earlier about the numbers game, and this game is one where you need to get your numbers together…NG coming with #7 Jaxson Kemp(QB), #30 Amare Akers(RB), #24 Dwight Hall(RB), #2 Reggie King(WR), #8 Grayson Council(WR), and #87 Arimeeh Mack(TE) are numbers to watch for on the Northern Guilford offense…Northwest Guilford counters with #4 Anders Mitchell(QB), #23 McKinnly Vance(RB), #32 Nathan Cox(RB), #2 Rakem Hammock(WR), #14 Quincy Bell Jr.(WR) and big blocking H back/TE Collyn Shokes(75)…This shapes up to be a battle…Who is in charge of pounding the drum??? Tough lines on both sides for both teams to, and that line of scrimmage will be a key line of battle…Kickers will be other big keys for both squads…Nolan Hagemann and Caleb Trogdon for NWG, while NG looks to Kobe Guardado and Anderson Meyer…The defense led by juniors, junior Chance Crews(LB) for Northern, and junior Austin Jackson(DB) for NWG….Game can be heard on GreensboroSports Radio with Coach Randy Norris there to help break it all down…Last year’s game went into Overtime at Northern Guilford where the Vikings led by Hammmock and now former NWG QB Tanner Ballou hooked up to get the Vikings the huge road win…Tonight it will be the Murphy Wainer Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio…Pregame at 6:45, and the kickoff comes at 7:30pm, from the R.L. Billings Stadium, at Northwest Guilford HS…Running yards will be available, but they might become hard to come by, in this contest…Big Battles Brewing Up Front…Five picks last week for the NWG defense, vs. Page…
(JV game won on Thursday night, by NG, in Double OT.)
Western Guilford(4-2/1-2) at Page(2-4/2-1) 7:30pm
Lots of questions to be answered going into this game, with both teams coming out of their last games, Page at NWG, and WG vs. Grimsley with several SMH moments…Page wondering which way they will be going at QB…Stick with the freshman Zamari Williamson, or go with the senior Nigel Hinson…Western not sure if RB Timothy Baker will be ready for this one..Baker felt like the Undertaker was coming after him, coming out of the Grimsley game…Baker with injury, and not sure if what we think is a leg/ankle injury will keep him out of the Page game…We have been hearing game-time decision for Baker, and WG needs him to compliment QB Caleb Moore and the Hornets other dynamic running back, Elijah Hayes…Page has Jesse Poole, the freshman runner going for them, and Poole never really got going vs. Northwest last week…Page still needs to find some way to get the ball to Kasai Poindexter more often, and let him run and do his thing…WG is run-first, pass-second if they even have to pass, and Page wants to force WG to put the ball in the air…Santiago Garcia is a very valuable kicker for Page…This game can be heard, and is available for you on GreensboroSports Radio, with Demetri Morrison on the call…GreensboroSports Radio 2, ready for you tonight, from the Marion Kirby Stadium…
Southwest Guilford(1-5/0-3) at Southeast Guilford(3-3/1-2) 7:30pm
Just feel like the SEG Falcons have and edge in this game, with the Falcons coming at the SWG Cowboys hard with QB Alexander Marsh, who is having a solid season for the Falcons…Then SEG has RBs Teriq McLaughlin and Ian McKinnon on the way up field, but not much action from McKinnon last week, in the Falcons win over the Ragsdale Tigers…Eric Gladney is the SEG top receiver…SWG with Robert Orr and more, but SWG still searching for ways to get the wagon back on the road, and the Cowboys have feeling like the sun has been setting on them way too early in games where the running clock is trying to run them out of the stadium…Game at Bill Slayton Stadium, and some say the Ghost of Bill Slayton gets up and walks around the grounds of the SEG sports complex/stadium…Tough enough to beat the current Earl Bates-coached SEG Falcons bunch, let alone trying to overcome Coach Slayton and his past, known for hard work and W’s….SEG gonna be tough at home, on a Friday night in October…
High Point Andrews(3-3/0-2) at Morehead(1-6/1-2) 7:30pm
HP Andrews with two weeks to get ready for this game, and I do think Andrews will roll by six touchdowns…Got the feeling and Got the Fever that the Red Raiders will be very ready for this game…Andrews began the season at (3-0) and they have gone (0-3) since…Conference Game losses to West Stokes and Walkertown have put a knife in the Radiers post-season chances…Got to get on the stick in a hurry and High Point Andrews will use this game, as a way to get back into the very small playoff picture…
Bishop McGuinness(4-2) at Pine Lake(2-4) 7pm
All we know is reverse the records, and we feel like Bishop is going to be OK…Not knowing a darn thing about Pine Lake will make us put all of stock this week in the Villains of Bishop McGuinness…Seemed to know more about Fire Lake, than Pine Lake, but we will take Bishop big in this one….
